In the 1940s, Fred Perry and his friend Tibby Wegner founded the sportswear company in Stockport. The following years saw the birth of the cult cotton piquet polo shirt with a close-fitting fit, recognisable by the laurel wreath sewn at chest. Fred Perry brand, popular with tennis players, also established itself in the British counter culture of the 1960s, and then achieved international success.
